Edinburgh Castle

Castle Hill, Edinburgh, EH1 2NG

Edinburgh Castle is the most visited attraction in Edinburgh and it is one of the best preserved castles in Scotland.  There has been a castle here since the 12th Century (the only original surviving part of the castle is St Margret,s Chapel).

Main highlights in the castle include the Scottish Crown Jewls, Mons Meg (one of the oldest canons in the world) and the one O'clock gun which has been set off every Mon-Sat since 1861.

Inside the caste grounds there are a large number of buildings to view, there are also organised tours which leave on an hourly basis and are available for no additional cost.  Headphones can be picked up for a small fee for an self guided audio tour of the grounds.

There are also some excellent panoramic views of the city from its elevated position and the coffee shop on the grounds offers an excellent spot to catch lunch and enjoy views of the city.
