Edinburgh Castle is the most visited attraction in Edinburgh and it is one of the
best preserved castles in Scotland. There has been a castle here since the
12th Century (the only original surviving part of the castle is St Margret,s
Main highlights in the castle include the Scottish Crown Jewls, Mons Meg (one of
the oldest canons in the world) and the one O'clock gun which has been set off
every Mon-Sat since 1861.
Inside the caste grounds there are a large number of buildings to view, there
are also organised tours which leave on an hourly basis and are available for no
additional cost. Headphones can be picked up for a small fee for an self
guided audio tour of the grounds.
There are also some excellent panoramic views of the city from its elevated
position and the coffee shop on the grounds offers an excellent spot to catch
lunch and enjoy views of the city.
