Edinburgh Zoo

134 Corstorphine Road, Edinburgh, EH12 6TS

Edinburgh Zoo is situated to the west of the city and it is the only zoo which exists in Scotland. The zoo has been around since 1913 and it is the only zoo in Britain to have Koalas and was the first zoo in the world to breed Penguins.

The zoo has a strong association with Penguins, this dates back to receiving its first Penguins in 1914 at which time this was the first time that people had seen Penguins outside of the S.Atlantic. The Penguin Parade which the zoo has become famous for dates back to 1950 and it runs everyday at 2.15pm.

On December 4th, 2011 the Zoo got a loan of 2 Giant Pandas from China for a period of ten years. These have become a highly popular addition to the zoo and the pair are a breeding pair and it is hoped they will breed successfully during their time in Edinburgh.
